People are continuing to look to the .INFO name in order to share their information with Internet users around the world. .INFO has more than 6.5 million registered sites and is still the most successful new TLD to date.

As of July 2010, North America maintains the largest share of .INFO registrations at 58 percent, followed by Europe with 27 percent.

Top registration markets for .INFO include US (55%), Germany (8%) and UK (4%). It is interesting to note that Japan has risen from eighth place in 2009 up to fourth place in 2010.

With over 5.2 million domains registered, the .INFO domain is currently the 4th largest generic top-level domain in the world, second only to .com, .net, and .org .INFO Domain owners continue to use .INFO to share their unique message with a large and increasingly diverse audience. As of March 2009, North America maintains the largest share of .INFO’s registration at 56%,followed closely by Europe at 33%.

.INFO services a global audience. North America is the top registration market for .INFO domain sales (51 percent) with Europe closely in second place (38 percent). The US is the top country for .INFO registrations (48 percent) followed by Germany (11 percent).

.INFO also boasts millions of active sites. 74 percent of .INFO registrations are active, meaning that when a user types them in their Web browser, the site goes to some type of content. For perspective, this is about the same "active rate" as .COM. Of these active sites, over 1 million are dedicated sites that appear to have unique content. In addition, over 1.4 million names are being redirected to an existing site (redirected sites), or have been set up to aid internet users by offering relevant links to follow (referral sites).

There are four factors that bode well for domain name growth in general and .INFO especially:

  • First, Internet penetration continues to grow worldwide, as a larger percentage of people get online. In the US, 71% of the households have Internet access (US Dept. of Commerce 2007 Census data), and teenagers now spend more time online than on the telephone! This trend will continue.

According to research conducted by Bruskin Research in August of 2001, Internet users have a positive attitude about .INFO Web sites.

  • In the US, 25% of internet users were aware of .INFO, and 54% said they were likely to visit a .INFO site when it became available.
  • In the UK, 41% of internet users were aware of .INFO, and 67% said they were likely to visit a .INFO site when it became available.
